Finding Resilient Solutions to Community Flooding: The Town of Plymouth Hosts a Flood Resilience Public Open House

PLYMOUTH, NC – In October 2023, the Town of Plymouth asked for public input on issues, needs, and opportunities related to flooding and other coastal hazards in our community via a public survey. In December 2023, the town invited the public to attend an open house to gather input on community priorities. The town is now inviting the public to attend an open house to gather input on potential projects that will increase the resiliency to flooding impacts within the community.

These meetings are part of the NC Resilient Coastal Communities Program (RCCP). The program facilitates a community-driven process for setting coastal resilience goals, assessing existing and needed local capacity, and identifying and prioritizing projects to enhance community resilience to coastal hazards. This initiative, funded through the N.C. General Assembly and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, provides funding to local governments to help overcome barriers in coastal resilience and adaptation planning, boost local government capacity, and support a proactive, sustainable, and equitable approach to coastal resilience planning and project implementation.

Draft flood resilience projects will be provided for public review, including potential investments in policy and regulatory actions, public education, infrastructure improvements, and nature-based projects. The meeting purpose is to obtain community input on potential projects that will increase the resiliency to flooding impacts within the community. Public input will be used to inform priority projects and actions.
