Planning, Zoning & Building Inspections

The Town of Plymouth Planning, Zoning and Building Inspections Department is charged with interpreting and enforcing the adopted Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Ordinance.  The Department is responsible for issuing zoning and sign permits, reviewing and evaluating site plans, subdivision plats, petitions for variances and special use, text amendments to the Zoning ordinance and updating the official Zoning map.  The Department is also tasked with providing recommendations to the Town Planning Board and Town Council, regarding text amendments and re-zoning, as well as providing information to developers and citizens.

Building Inspections for the Town of Plymouth are performed by the Washington County Building Inspector.  The office is responsible for the enforcement of the North Carolina Building Codes as mandated by the General Statutes of North Carolina.  Fees are charged depending upon the type of required permit(s).  For permit information, contact Allen Pittman, Planning and Inspections Director, or call (252) 793-4114.
